How to Plan Your Week Like A Boss

For the past two years it feels like I’ve been living in two homes, my parents house and my boyfriends flat. While this situation does have its perks (low rent and sense of freedom) it also has its downsides. The main culprit being the amount of packing and unpacking involved in moving from one place to the next, every-single-week. Fortunately, this commute will be coming to an end this Spring as we’re currently in the process of buying our first home! Yet, if my lifestyle from the past two years has taught me anything, its ‘how to plan your week like a boss’.

To make the most out of the week ahead and to remove any unnecessary stress I’ve learned to organise my schedule and be productive.  Let’s take a closer look.

How to Plan Your Week Like A Boss

Choose Your Planner/ Calendar

First things first, you need to choose your planner/ calendar. Would you prefer to use pen and paper or technology? Personally, I prefer to use my the calendar on my iPhone to keep track of dates and events. Then I love to use one of my many notebooks to write down my goals and tasks for the week. Some of my favourite notes books have to be from Kikki.K and Paperchase.

Relax and Review

I always prefer to review my calendar at the weekend, usually on a Sunday when I’m feeling relaxed and ready to plan for the week ahead. Put on your comfy clothes, listen to your favourite music, grab a warm or refreshing drink and open up your diary. The idea behind this is to remove any unnecessary stress and start your weekly planning in a relaxed mind-set.

Write a to-do List

Start with the tasks which seem mundane such as booking a dentist appointment or returning an item you no longer want. While these may not seem critical, they sure can cause unnecessary stress when you cant book the appointment time you wanted or when you have missed the returns by date.

Select Monthly Goals

Now for something more fun, goals! Write down your monthly goals and make sure they are SMART. If you haven’t made any goals, then have a think about what you wish to achieve this month. From your list, make a separate list of tasks for each goal. Try to think of tasks which you will need to complete this week, each task should take you a step closer to your final goal.

Priorities and Categorise

Now that you have written down your tasks and goals for the week ahead, it’s time to priorities and categorise. I have several to-do lists including work and blogging tasks, a shopping list and a general errands list. Categorising your tasks allows them to appear more ‘bite-size’ and manageable, reducing any feelings of stress and overwhelm. Of course, this is a personal preference and you can play around with your lists and find what works best for you. Prioritising your tasks doesn’t always mean doing what you love first, sometimes it’s best to complete the difficult and maybe boring tasks first.

Never do tomorrow what you can do today. Procrastination is the thief of time.

Schedule Your Time

Schedule the time you need to accomplish each task. Have you got time during your commute to work? If your sitting on the train for a while you could use this time to tick a few things off your list. Such has reading a book which you hope to finish by next week or writing blog post ideas (if you’re a fellow blogger).

Check Your Planner in the Morning

Before you start your day review your planner, what are you going to accomplish today? Do you need to set yourself any reminders? Make this part of your morning routine.

Reflect in the Evening

In the evenings, spend a couple of minutes reflecting on your day. Did you achieve everything you wanted? Could you of done more or do you need more time to relax?
