10 Healthy Habits To Do Every Day

10 Habits For A Healthy Body And A Happy Mind

A Little Goes a Long Way

I’ve found that when I want to make a healthy change I’m more likely to stick to it if I start small. If I do the opposite and deprive myself of too much too soon then I will fall back into old unhealthy habits. That’s why one of my February goals is to cut out unhealthy snacks during working hours. If however, I decided to cut out unhealthy snacks for the entire month of February, then I can be certain that March would be an extremely chocolate flavoured month!

I love reading about other people’s healthy habits, as I like to incorporate them into my own life. So I think it’s only fair that I share my own list of healthy habits, which you can do daily to stay fit and healthy. The most important thing to remember is to start of small. Introduce one or two habits a week or month.  This will help them become second nature and you will be doing them as part of your everyday routine!

10 Habits For A Healthy Body And A Happy Mind

Schedule Time For Yourself

Most people are on the go all of the time. Working, looking after our family, exercising, cooking, there’s always something that needs to be done. To avoid stress you must also schedule time for yourself. Even if it’s 15 – 30 minutes in the morning before the rest of the house wakes up. Find time to do something you enjoy, such as reading, yoga or going for a morning walk. Remember, it’s not selfish to take care of yourself and make your happiness a priority, it’s necessary.

Drink Two Litres of Water a Day

Staying hydrated is extremely important. In fact, one of my February goals is to drink two litres of water a day. To make sure this happens I always carry a bottle of water in my bag and keep my water bottle* at my desk at all times. Staying hydrated has countless health benefits, such as helping with weight loss, prevents headaches, fights infections and clears your skin. We’re constantly losing water so staying hydrated will boost your energy in the same way that not enough water will make your brain slow down.

Use Your Lunch to be Active

Now I’m not saying that you must go for a run or go to the gym during your lunch break, unless you have time of course. Instead use your lunch to go for a walk outside, get some fresh air and simply step out of the office and away from your desk. You will come back feeling refreshed, focused and will have a clearer mind. Your mind and body will always be thankful for the light exercise!

Get The Right Amount of Sleep

There’s a reason why we sleep everyday, because our bodies need to rest! A good nights sleep will allow you to feel energetic, happier, motivated and focused. Those few extra hours of sleep will also stop you from overeating throughout the day and prevent you from feeling drained and agitated. It’s also important to make sure you’re not oversleeping as this can mess up your sleeping cycle, leaving you feeling just as sluggish and drowsy! The amount of sleep you need can depend on your age, but the average is eight hours.

Go Offline

I’ll admit that I look at my phone a lot! I then use the computer all day at work followed by blogging on the laptop during my free time. So I like to make sure I go offline for at least an hour before bed. I choose this time because I find it relaxing and easier to sleep when I have switched off an hour or so before going to sleep. I use this time to read, put relaxing music and to simply relax.

Get Outside

I’ve always found that if I’m stressed or there is something on my mind, there is no better remedy that getting outside. Nature is the cure for everything, the smell of fresh air and the smell of rain. Nature has a wonderful way of de-stressing and rejuvenating us. The best therapy is some light exercise outside such as a walk or a jog, with no phone, no distractions just you and nature.

Wear SPF

We all know how the damaging the sun is to our skin and this includes sunbeds. A simple and healthy way to protect your skin is to add a daily moisturiser with SPF to your morning beauty routine. I absolutely love the Benefit Facial Sun Cream*, the texture is so light that I can’t even tell I’m wearing it. Most importantly, it doesn’t effect my make up. You might think that you don’t need to wear SPF because it’s not a sunny day, however the clouds only filter out the light, not the UV rays.

Floss Everyday

We all know that brushing our teeth twice a day is important, but do you floss twice a day too? Flossing your teeth will not only prevent plaque build up but it will also stop your gums from bleeding and keep your teeth healthy and strong.

Use Affirmations

Affirmations are a perfect way to develop a more positive perception of yourself and your life. They can influence the way you think and behave. Sadly, most of us will think more negative thoughts about ourselves. Such as, “I can’t do (insert your goal here)” or “I could never be (insert your ambition here)”. Affirmations can change obstructive behaviour and habits. They can help undo the damage caused by negative statements which we have we repeatedly told ourselves. Examples of affirmations include “I am worthy of my dreams” and “I am healthy, I am happy, I am strong”. See here for a list of 100 positive affirmations.

Snack on Fruit

I would say that it’s around 3pm when I feel the urge to sneak a cookie for the cookie draw. Yet when the fruit basket is positioned just above, I cant help but feel guilty! Replacing unhealthy snacks with fruit is such a simple and extremely healthy change. That’s why one of my February goals is to only choose healthy snacks during working hours! By doing this I feel more energetic, focused and happier.

Which of these habits do you already do? What healthy habits do you do everyday? How do you make sure you stick to your habits? I would love to hear from you!

  1. Loads of really good advice here, I am so bad for snacking. Making sure I get outside every day for a bit of fresh air really works for me and helps to clear my head! Good luck with your February goals.
