How to make money online? This is a question which most have asked ourselves more than once! But the thing is, we don’t have tons of time to dedicate to making extra money online, as we already have a job and or other commitments which take up most of our time.
However there are ways we can earn money online and below I have listed my favourite ways. These are ways which I think are actually worth doing.
Start a blog
If you want to make money online, my number one advice would be to start a blog. Let’s take myself for example, I have a a part time office job which I do alongside blogging – which makes passive income. I started my blog in December 2016 and I recently quit my full time job to pursue blogging alongside a part time job. Blogging isn’t a get rich quick way of making money, but if you stick with you, you can earn money while you sleep! There are many ways you can earn money from blogging, but to give you an idea I’ll let you in on the ways I earn money online.
Adverts: The main way I currently earn money online is through advertising. As you can see I have adverts on my blog, set up through a company called Mediavine, who pay me once a month with the money earned from displaying their adverts. The more traffic my blog gets, the more money I earn! You can also add adverts to your blog with Google Adsence and Adthrive.
Digital products: I have my own online shop which I set up with Woo-Commerce. Which means I’m able to create and sell digital products such as e-books and calendars. Setting up my shop with woo-commerce means I can sell products directly on my shop and avoid seller fees which you would find on Etsy.
Affiliate links: The last way I make money from blogging is through affiliate links. Some of the affiliate programmes which I am associated with include Amazon and Siteground. Affiliate programmes allows you earn a small commission when someone purchases a product or a service through your affiliate link, at no extra cost to the buyer.

Another great way to earn money online, and one which I have tried and succeeded with is through affiliate marketing. If you’ve got a good following on social media or if you have a blog or a YouTube channel, you can start earning money straight away by promoting products and services which have affiliate programmes.
There are many companies which offer affiliate programmes, here are a few to get you started:
- Amazon Associates
- eBay Partners
- Rakuten Marketing Affiliates
Sell your unwanted items
Sites such as eBay, Gumtree and Shpock allow you to sell your unwanted items. I’m sure it’s crossed your mind that you could sell your unwanted items to earn some extra cash, but have you actually had a good look around your home to see if you have any unwanted items which you could sell? If you’re not sure if something is worth selling, take a look at what other people are selling online.
What you think is trash might be what someone else is looking for. If you genuinely don’t believe you have anything to sell, then you could quite literally sell a job lot of cardboard rolls, perfect for arts and crafts!
Create and sell on Etsy
Have you ever thought about opening an Etsy store? Your very own online shop to sell your arts and crafts! On Etsy you can sell jewellery, clothing, wedding decor, home decor, party and craft supplies. So if you had a hidden talent then why not open your own Etsy store and start selling your crafts! P.S if you sell digital products you only need to make the product once and let it sell over and over again!
Set up your own online shop to avoid seller fees
If you have your own blog you can set up your own online shop with WooCommerce, which is exactly what I have done. You can check out my shop here! The reason why I set up a my own online shop instead of using Etsy, was to avoid seller fees. In my online shop I currently sell only digital products such as eBooks and planners.
Create and sell online courses
Do you have a skill which you can teach others? Why not create your own online course and sell on platforms such as Teachable and or Udemy. I recently set up a free account with Teachable where I create and sell online course.
Once you have an idea of what you can offer in an online course you can start creating your course by creating videos and even workbooks to make the course more valuable to your students. If you have a social presence or a blog, you can promote your online course to your audience.

Sell your photos
Do you take beautiful photos? Do you think other people would love to re-use your photos either for their business, blog or to display in their home? Many stock libraries buy and sell digital photos to use on websites, in books, on products and even in ads. If your photo is sold it means you will get a cut of the sale. Woohoo! Selling photos online is a great way of making passive income, as your photo can be sold over and over again!
Here is a list of stock libraries you can sell your photos to:
If you decide you want to take your photographer further, you could start a blog and use this platform to sell your photos, meaning you cut out the middle-man and any seller fees. You can sell your photos individually or create a stock photography membership site such as Haute Stock.
Write and publish a Kindle eBook
Did you know anyone can publish a kindle eBook on Amazon? If you love writing you can list your eBook on the Amazon Kindle store and earn 70% commission on every sale. If you have a blog with a lot of content on their already, then you could re-purpose your content and turn it into an eBook.
