How To Find Happiness From Within

In this post I’m sharing how to find happiness from within. Finding happiness within can be difficult if you are in a negative mind-set but you shouldn’t blame the world for your problems. This will only attract more negativity. Instead you must take responsibility for your own actions, your own journey and your own feelings. Understand that when happiness is within you, nobody and nothing can steal your joy. You and only you have control.

There will be no person on Earth that views life in the same way. Each of us have created our own reality based on our own opinions and experiences. Sometimes we believe that we need to accomplish a goal in order to be happy. The truth is, these accomplishments will only bring you joy for as long as you choose to be happy. Your reality is simply a mirror of your feelings and thoughts. You first have to find the happiness within you, only then will reality reflect your feelings.

Imagine your life as a book, every day is written on a piece of paper, at the top reads today’s date. Now it’s up to you to fill this page with events, thoughts, feelings and actions. Through your own representation of the day, you can choose how to sign this page off. In your opinion was it a good day or a bad day? Overall did you feel happy or sad? Do you think you were successful or unsuccessful? Are you grateful for this day?

How To Find Happiness

Don’t rely on others to make you happy

Happiness starts with you. Not with your partner, your friends or your family, but with you. If you rely on other people to make you happy, you will be continuously disappointed. We must take personal responsibility for our own feelings and learn that happiness depends much more on our attitude that anything else. Sometimes we allow a small comment or disagreement to make us down in the dumps. The best thing is to realise that you can’t control other people’s behaviour but you can control how you respond.

Conquer your jealousy

Jealousy  happens to the best of us. Yet it can be a destructive quality as it steals the joy and pride from your own achievements. It can make you feel bitter and jaded as you envy someone else’s life. Instead, use your green monster to your advantage. Realise that you’re feeling this way because you want more for yourself. Let it motivate you but always turn your focus back to your own journey and your own goals. Remember that there will always be someone who is smarter, richer or faster than you but there is only going to be one you and you are unique.

Take care of yourself

Taking care of yourself is one of best ways to feel happy. Most of us have experienced a time when we were in a slump or a bad place. During this phase our self-care goes downhill. We will eat more junk food or eat less in general. Exercise will be limited or non-existent and our sleeping pattern will go out the window. Or maybe you’ve been stuck in the continuous cycle of work, sleep and more work.  Your body needs your attention so schedule time for regular exercise, eat healthy, drink plenty of water and give yourself enough sleep. Make time for yourself and your mind and body will thank you. The more you take care of yourself the happier you will be.

Be grateful

It’s important to not let the things you want make you forget the things which you have.  Practising gratitude everyday will allow you to count your blessings, not your problems. At the end of each day try to find three things which you are grateful for. This could be an event which happened to you that day. Or it could be a person you have in your life. Once you start you will soon realise that you have many things to be grateful for.

Be kind

Be kind to others, treat everyone with respect. Listen to them and give without expecting anything in return. Doing so can get you caught up in a lovely little cycle of feeling good and being kind. Such acts can be small but can make a big difference to yours and other people’s day. Such as smiling at strangers or giving up your seat on the train for those less able to stand, instead of waiting for someone else to offer their seat. Be kind to everyone, including yourself.

Happiness is not determined by what’s happening around you, but rather what’s happening inside you. Thank you for reading! I hope you’ve found these points helpful.

This post really shared some great tips especially number one. I also think that making sure you are surrounded by positive energy and not comparing yourself to others are two other great tips to find happiness. Thanks for sharing!

I love the idea of writing down things you are grateful for. Sometimes we get caught up in our busy lives to think about this but it only takes a few minutes to gather your thoughts and appreciate someone or something.

I completely agree! It only takes a couple of minutes to practise gratitude but it’s something we need to keep reminding ourselves to do. Thanks for commenting!

Lovely ideas to ponder! Travel gives you time away from the normal stresses of life to ponder things like that – maybe that is part of the reason travel makes people happier! These lessons will certainly serve anyone well, especially children who will have their whole life to enjoy the answers they find!

I think #1 is so important. If we can’t make ourselves happy then nothing else will. We an’t control other people’s actions or words, so it’s best we don’t rely on them for our happiness. I think taking care of yourself is another big one. With so much going on everyday sometimes that one slips between the cracks.

I’m glad you agree! Happiness starts with us and soon as we realise that we have control of our happiness then life becomes a lot easier. As you said, taking care of ourselves is also another important one, for example I always need to remind myself to drink more water! Thanks for commenting 🙂

Really great tips! Gratitude changes and saves lives, believe me! I always try to remember, “what if you woke up tomorrow with only what you were grateful for yesterday?” – puts things into perspective!
