6 Effective Ways To Relax After Work
We all have stressful days at work and some days we just seem to get more agitated than others. As we spend the majority of our time at work it’s important that we don’t take any stress home, but lately, I’ve been doing the exact opposite as I’ve been bringing my stress from the day home with me which has been making my work days seem longer. So today I want to share with you six ways to relax after work, with the hope that I will also listen to my own advice.
Relax During Your Commute
You don’t need to wait until you actually arrive home to start relaxing, because if you’re like me and it takes you an hour or more to get home then you should start to unwind as soon as you leave the office.
Okay, so this may be easier said than done because as I write this I’m one of the lucky few who are sitting down on an overcrowded and delayed train. If you are able to sit down on the train or bus home then use this time to escape in a good book. If you’re standing up on the train or driving home then listen to your favourite tunes, I’ve always found acoustic music relaxes me. Or mix things up and listen to a Podcast or a Ted Talk. You may think that exercising after a hard and tiring day at work is not a relaxing activity but exercising has an incredibly positive effect on your mind and body. Cardio exercises such as running will release endorphins that make you feel great. Sometimes I like to go for a short run as soon as I arrive home from work to let the stress from the day out on the road. I always come home pleased with myself and in a relaxed mindset.
Be with Nature
The majority of us will spend most of our working day in an office sitting in front of a screen, which surely can’t be good for our well-being. Make the most out of the Summer and be with nature or why not indulge your green thumb and do a bit of gardening? I just love doing or simply being in my garden, in a space which is just mine with no distractions, the atmosphere makes me feel so peaceful and relaxed. If you don’t have a garden of your own then try going for a walk around your local park or feel the breeze by the seafront and let your mind wander away from the office.
Meet up with Friends
Since I’ve moved out of my parent’s house I’ve been making a conscious effort to meet up with friends and family after work. I love doing this because not only do I get to see my loved ones more but it breaks up my boring weekday routine, giving me something to look forward to after work. Although there is a slight problem with this, you may wake up thinking it’s the weekend when it’s only Wednesday!
Self-care is super important for your health and well-being, it reduces stress and helps you to relax and unwind from the daily pressures of life. One of my all-time favourite ways to practice self-care is to pamper myself. I just love a pamper session but I’ve found that they usually happen on a Sunday, treat yourself and schedule a session for the weekday. Just imagine, you’ve arrived home from work, you run a nice warm bubble bath, light a scented candle, put on a face mask and get lost in a good book, pure bliss! You’re pampering session doesn’t necessarily need to be at home, so why not book yourself a pedicure or a massage after work? You deserve it!
Watch Your Favourite TV Shows
Once we arrive home, sometimes we need nothing more than put on our own PJs, lounge on the sofa and catch up with our favourite TV shows. Earlier this week, an evening when my boyfriend Ash was meeting his friends, I wanted nothing more than to download Game of Thrones and play catch up. Oh and a quick trip to the Co-op for some chocolate… of course! We all need nights like this, and even though they aren’t “productive” they are needed to help us relax and unwind.
Get Lost in a Book
Sometimes we just need a place for our minds to escape to after a chaotic day in the office. I love reading but after a couple of chapters, I feel myself drifting away.
