April Goals and March Review

Hello and welcome to my April goals post! If you have been following my previous goal updates, you will know that at the start of 2017 I decided to set myself monthly goals instead of a New Year Resolution. By doing this I hope to inspire you to set your own goals. I also believe that sharing our ideas and objectives with others will provide motivation and encouragement.

As it’s the start of a new month it’s time to review March goals and set new goals for April.

Your dreams are only your dreams until you write them down… then they are your goals.

Self Development

My previous self development goals were to read, so I wanted to mix things up a in March by introducing myself to the wonderful world of podcasts.

  • Listen to five inspiring podcasts for self-improvement

I absolutely loved this goal. Instead of listening to music on my way to work I plugged in and listened to inspiring messages, stories and advice from a range of incredibly motivating and strong people. I will soon be writing a round-up post of my favourite and most inspired talks.


My fun goal for March was to finally book the experience day vouchers which I received last Christmas.

  • Book experience days from Christmas gift cards

Last Christmas I received two experience vouchers, one for afternoon tea and one for a comedy night. The idea was to finally book them instead of leaving them last minute! I have booked the afternoon tea for hopefully a sunny day in July but I still need to book in a date for the comedy night…

Health & Fitness

Last Sunday I completed another 10k run, making it my fourth or maybe fifth 10k race. To train I aimed to follow this schedule:

  • Two 5k runs during the week
  • One 8k run at the weekend
  • Two gym sessions during the week

To be honest I didn’t follow my training plan, yet I didn’t dismiss it either. I simply mixed things up a little. For example some weeks I didn’t go to the gym at all, instead I completed four runs. I think the warmer weather lured me out of the gym and into the fresh air. Here I am in action, running 10k in Regents Park!

I love reading other peoples blogs. Their words provide me with inspiration and keep me motivated, but I don’t always leave a comment to let them know how much I enjoyed their posts. As a fellow blogger I feel as though I have a responsibility to encourage and praise others for the sharing their thoughts and creativity.

  • Comment on at least seven blogs per week


I tend to put myself down and be too hard on myself, sound familiar? So one of my April goals is to practice emotional self-care by writing a list of all the things which I love about myself.

  •  Write a list of the things I love about myself (10 minimum)

Health & Fitness

I felt really proud of myself after my 10k run last week but the next day my body was aching… a lot. This months health and fitness goal is going to be a bit more relaxing.

  • Practise yoga once a week (minimum)


I am SO excited to be going to New York with my Nan at the end of April. Neither of us have been to New York before, so I think a suitable ‘fun’ goal would be to have an amazing and unforgettable holiday.

  • Have an unforgettable time in New York with my lovely Nan

Have goals so big that you feel uncomfortable telling small minded people.

    Love your goals Laura, and congratulations on the 10k races, I’m struggling to get to 5k at the mo! I love setting and working on my goals, but sometimes it feels a bit lonely, so finding your goal write up helps me feel part of a ‘tribe’ :).
    We plan to go to New York too, but it’s not on the goal list for this year…maybe next year, but despite that we have lots of travel plans.
    I was about to ‘read and run’, but seeing your goal to comment on others’ blogs reminded me to let you know I was here! Thanks for the reminder!

      Hi Nicola, aww thank you! Don’t worry you’ll reach 5k soon enough and then they’ll be no stopping you. I remember when the furthest I could run was 3k then one day I just kept going and reached my 5k goal, I was so pleased with myself! I’m super excited for New York and so is my nan! but it’s just one of many places on my travel list. I’m glad you stopped to say hello, I was getting in a bad habit of ‘read and run’ but my goal is helping me to stop and leave comments. Thanks for commenting, hope to hear from you again 🙂 x
