To know what your values are, you must first understand yourself. Below are five thought provoking questions to help you get a deeper understanding of yourself and your values. Your answers and decisions will give you the insight and inspiration to live how you really want to live. Take your time to answer each question honestly. They will provide the framework needed to clearly define your values.
- Who or what is most important to you?
- When do you feel your happiest and most alive?
- What mistakes have you learned from?
- How would you like to be remembered by your friends and family?
- Which areas of your life do you wish to develop?
Your Values and Their Symptoms
On average we tend to have five to ten core values. Each making us who we are and giving us a sense of purpose. Let’s say for example yoga is important to you. We could then suggest that health, fitness, relaxation or something of this nature is your value. Yoga is a symptom of this value, so to truly understand yourself try to think about what led you to yoga. Perhaps you enjoy the alone time or maybe you appreciate nature and prefer doing this activity outside. Or you may love the health benefits. Once you understand exactly what it is that you value, you will begin to understand yourself and what motivates you.
Identify Your Core Values
Your core values are what matters most to you in life, they are the reason why you get up in the morning.
Your values reflect who you are on a daily basis, at home, at work, with friends, with family and by yourself. Identifying these are super important when creating your goals. If you’re clear about what values matter to you, you’re able to visualise goals that incorporate these values and ultimately bring more happiness and fulfillment to your life.
