How To Do A Self-Care Audit + Free Workbook

What do you think of when it comes to self-care? Do you imagine bubble baths and candles followed by meditation or yoga? While they do sound relaxing there is so much more to self-care. Self-care is about the actions and practices with which you engage to enhance and protect your health and well-being. It’s about finding something which you can carry out on a regular basis to reduce stress and help you relax and unwind from the daily pressures of life.


Why You Should Conduct a Self-Care Audit

Audit sounds so official but to audit, your self-care simply means to take note of what’s going on in your life. To understand what’s making you feel stressed, to realise what you’re making a priority and to acknowledge what habits you’ve developed (or not developed). Doing a self-care audit is a fantastic way to really look at your life and understand what’s going on.

1. Q&A

Take out your journal and go somewhere where you feel relaxed and won’t be disturbed. We’re going to start with some simple yet powerful questions which will allow you to check in with yourself and truly understand how you feel right now. You want to really listen to what your mind and body are telling you. Are you feeling overwhelmed, are you lacking energy?

Here are some questions to get you started. I dive into this in more depth in my free self-care audit workbook.

  • How many hours of sleep do you get per night?
  • How were your energy levels when you woke up this morning?
  • When was the last time you felt your happiest and most alive?
  • Do you feel satisfied with your daily routine or do you feel stuck and bored with life?

2. Tell The Truth

Give yourself permission, to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. Release all of your emotions, desires, ideas, regrets, basically everything that is on your mind and let it all out on paper. Be with your emotions and really listen to how you are feeling. There are so many thoughts which clutter up our minds, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, be honest with yourself and your life, how are things really going for you? Are you where you want to be and if not, why? Don’t hold anything in, release all of your feelings whether they be positive or negative.

Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • What is causing you to stress right now?
  • How have you grown in the past two years?
  • What advice would you give to your younger self?
  • What is holding you back from being the person you wish to be or living the life you wish to live?

More or Less?

Now that you have de-cluttered your mind and released your emotions, we are going to explore your daily habits. Start by making a list of all the things you wish you had more time for in your life. Next, write a list of all of the things you want to do less of in your life. Now, compare your two lists and ask yourself, how can I do more of the things I love and less of the things I hate? Do you need to start saying no more? Do you need to hire help, such as a cleaner or simply ask your family to help out more with chores? I mean, why would you waste so much of your precious time doing things which you hate when you could be doing more things which make you feel happy and alive?
