Self Development Goals To Nourish Your Mind

Read one book every month

At the start of the month pick a self development book to read. The inspiration, ideas and advice they provide will benefit your personal growth journey. Sometimes you might finish a book with a whole new mind set and perception of things. Other times you might take away a couple of new strategies to start implementing.

Journal everyday

I haven’t tried this goal yet but I’ve read that journaling can be incredible relaxing. Putting pen to paper can help you find clarity in difficult situations. I believe that we would all be surprised by how many thoughts we have at the end of each day.

Limit screen time

Many of us stare at a screen all day long. It can’t be very healthy to then go home and stare at a screen all evening. Try ti limit your screen time by doing something else with your evenings, which don’t involve staring at a screen.

Start a gratitude journal

It comes quite naturally for most of us to focus on the negative side of situations. To reverse these thoughts and nourish your mind you must express gratitude. Either in the morning or before bed, use your journal to write down three to five things which you’re grateful for. Expressing gratitude will shift your focus onto your positive life experiences.

Stop snoozing

Sometimes I fall into a bad habit of snoozing my alarm every time it goes off. During the first few seconds of the alarm sounding all I want is more sleep. Yet I’m always more energised and less groggy when I wake up straight away.

Try the one tab challenge

Try to keep only one tab open your browser at all times. Doing this will help you feel more focused and less anxious.

30-day yoga challenge

Yoga has so many health benefits. I’ve been to a couple of yoga classes in the past but I’ve been meaning to start doing it more regularly. Yoga with Adrienne has put together a 30 day yoga challenge which I’m keen to try!

30-day squat challenge

I’ve done squat challenges in the past but I’ve never quite made it up to day 30! I think it’s time to do this challenge properly. There are loads of apps you can download which will keep you motivated and send you reminders.

Try a new exercise

If you’re struggling to stay motivated during exercise then maybe it’s time you switched things up. There are so many different classes you could join such as Spin, Dance and Pilates. Try out a some new exercises and see which ones you enjoy the most.

Create a morning routine

There is so much to be accomplished before the working day begins and the rest of the world wakes up. Create your perfect morning routine by aligning it with your values and goals.

Create an evening routine

A night time routine should make you feel relaxed before you go to sleep. It should also compliment your morning routine, by preparing you for the next day. The possibilities for your night time routine are endless.

Take a walk after meals

Going for a walk after your meals allows your food to digest, it means you can get some fresh air, do some gentle exercise and give your mind some space some before returning to your responsibilities.

Drink more water

Saying hydrated is extremely important. That’s why I try to drink two litres of water a day. Staying hydrated has countless health benefits. We’re constantly losing water so staying hydrated will boost your energy in the same way that not enough water will make your brain slow down.

Self Development Goals To Nourish Your Soul

De-clutter your home

De-cluttering your space can help to clear your mind as well as your home. I recently read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying* written by Marie Kondo, Japan’s de-cluttering expert and professional cleaner. This book helped me notice that when I have many things on my mind, I feel the urge to clean and de clutter my space.

Organise your photos

One of my goals last month was to organise my holiday photos and create an online photo album. This is one of those tasks which would never get done unless I set myself a goal to do it! I can now see all of my beautiful holiday photos with ease.

Learn a new recipe

One of the goals which I set myself in January was to learn my mums trifle recipe. If you’re feeling creative you could even try to learn a new meal every week!

Reach out to someone

Set yourself a meaningful goal by reaching out to someone who you haven’t seen in a while. This could be a call to a relative or arranging a date with an old friend. Sometimes life can get so busy that we don’t find time so make a point to contact the people you haven’t spoken to in a while

Tell me about some self development goals which you’ve set for yourself.

What a lovely list! The last item, ‘reaching out to someone,’ really hit me. I need to do that more, especially with some older relatives I rarely see. Thanks for the great reminder!

    I love these goals!

I’m trying to get into journaling, but it’s hard for me to remember to do it everyday. I always feel way better about the day after getting my thoughts out on paper though. I also really want to try to spend less time on my screen after work too. That’s a tough one!

    Thanks for the great post!

Thank you, I’m glad you like it! I agree, I always feel much better once I have written down my thoughts. It’s surprising sometimes how much we need to let off our chest! Thanks for commenting.

Still trying to remember to journal every day. I wish I could remember how helpful it is when I keep deciding I am “too tired” . Still a work in progress

Just remember not to be too hard on yourself. Use journaling as a way to practice self-care and connect with your thoughts, rather than seeing it as something you have to do everyday. x
