In this post I’m sharing 5 powerful beliefs that have helped me succeed in achieving my goals and staying motivated. If it wasn’t for these beliefs, I wouldn’t have been able to quit my full time job to pursue blogging.
5 Powerful Beliefs That Will Help You Succeed
I know enough to start
If you’re a perfectionists, then you’re probably the kind of person who likes to have all of their ducks in a row before they start something new. And I use to be exactly the same, when I wanted to start something new I found it very easy to talk myself out of it because I didn’t know every-single-step. So I’ve developed the belief that “I know enough to start”.
It means I can take action straight away based on what I do know, and learn the rest along the way. While I would love to have the perfect plan before I start new things, this isn’t necessarily the best way to go about it, sometimes it’s best to learn while taking action.
Done is better than perfect
I’ve created the belief that “done is better than perfect” to stop holding myself back. This belief means I’m able to share more content and achieve more. It means I’m finishing projects and reaching goals, rather than giving up halfway out of fear of judgement.
If I didn’t have this belief then I wouldn’t had launched when I did, I would of waited until I had the “perfect” theme and my blog posts were “perfect” and so on. If I didn’t have this belief then I wouldn’t have launched my first course, created my own digital products or started a YouTube channel, I would of let perfectionism hold me back.
With the belief, “done is better than perfect” I’ve been able to created new things and learn along while taking action. it means i can look back at my older content and see how much I’ve improved.
If they can do it, so can I
I remember telling myself this belief before I started my blog. “If they can do it, so can I”, and I’ve stuck with this belief ever since. Every time I see someone succeeding, instead of feeling discouraged and wondering why I’m not as successful as them, I tell myself I can do it too!
Not long ago I was listening to The Perfectionist Project podcast by Sam Laura Brown, episode 105 “what a six figure business really feels like”. In this episode Sam talks openly about how much her business/ blog has earned in the past year. I found it very inspiring and encouraging, and I came back to my belief, if they can do it, so can I!
However it would of been just too easy to listen to this episode and feel like a failure in comparison. To compare my journey with hers. This is not the attitude that will benefit you, so when you see or hear of someone else success, remember to tell yourself, if they can do it, so can I!
Discomfort is a sign of growth
Every time I’ve felt discomfort it’s because I’ve been pushing myself out my comfort zone.
- When I started my blog I felt discomfort
- When I created my YouTube channel I felt discomfort
- When I first started creating my own products I felt discomfort
- When I hired a coach I felt discomfort
- When I quit my full time job for blogging I felt discomfort
We get to decide what things mean, we get to decide whether discomfort means we’re growing or if we’re not good enough.
There is no comfortable way to grow, to grow you need to show up and do it even when the fear is there. I have fear every time I do something new and I don’t think I’ll ever get to a point where I don’t. But I’ve gotten to the point where I understand that discomfort is growth .
I’m in control
I use to feel stuck in my previous job as I had a 3 month notice period and I couldn’t figure out where to go next. I worked at my previous job for four years with over one year of wanting to leave but no knowing what to do!
In January 2019 I made the decision to quit my full time job and find a local part time job. One which give me more freedom and a better work life balance. During my notice period I suddenly realised how much control I had of my life. I’m in control of my my path, sometimes there are obstacles but it’s up to me whether I face them or let them defeat me.
Think about how you’re currently living your life. Your ideal might actually be a lot easier to live than what you believe. Ask yourself some key questions such as:
- What do I want my day to look like?
- Where do I want to put my time?
- What do I want to do more of?
- What do I want to stop doing?
How to create a new belief
To create powerful beliefs you need to train your mind into believing new thoughts. You can do this by writing down your new belief or by reading your new belief to yourself everyday. The key here is repetition.
But while that sounds simple, it’s not easy. It’s likely that you have developed a lot of negative beliefs about yourself and your abilities, you need to swap those belief for ones which will benefit you.
Affirmations are a great place to start when creating new beliefs. Affirmations are a simple yet powerful way to help you train your brain to see possibilities you’ve never seen before and create beliefs that will help you achieve your goals and stop you from self-sabotaging.
