The Perfect Morning Routine To Kick Start Your Day

Do you want to create the perfect morning routine? While I do wish I could make every morning more meaningful. There is so much to be accomplished before the working day begins and the rest of the world wakes up.  Yet I find myself in a constant state of wanting to be productive and wanting to go back to sleep.

The other night I set my alarm to 6am, feeling ready to wake up early and work on my goals. The morning approached and my alarm sounded and what did I do? I snoozed and snoozed and snoozed some more.

Until it reached 7am and it was time to get ready for work, my opportunity to have the perfect morning had vanished. I felt guilty and disappointed in myself but I understand that the reason why I couldn’t drag myself out of bed was because I didn’t have a plan! I hadn’t given myself a specific routine which makes me want to jump out of bed in the morning.

Wake up on time

To create the perfect morning routine you first need to plan which time you will wake up, and then actually wake up at this time. That means no more snoozing! By hitting that snooze button and going back to sleep your brain starts its sleep cycle all over again. Meaning, when your alarm goes off again, you will be in a deeper sleep than before! Leaving you feeling much more tired than the first time your alarm sounded.

When I was struggling to wake up early I downloaded an app called “Alarmy”.  You will love it but hate it at the same time, why? Because you will not be able to go back to sleep with this alarm. There are a few different ways you can turn your alarm off, all of which involve you being wide awake.

I’ve opted for answering difficult maths questions and the alarm will not turn off until you’ve answered all the questions correctly. Another option is to take a picture of a particular image in your house, your best chances with this option is to choose an image in another room, such as your fridge. Know your goals

Your perfect morning should be aligned with your values and goals. It should be a routine that makes you look forward to waking up early every day. Think about your goals, are you working on achieving them or do time restraints and lack of energy restrict you? Maybe you need to set time aside every morning to work on your goals. Now think about your current morning routine, does it compliment your values? Answer the following questions. The purpose of these questions is to get you thinking about how you can make your mornings more meaningful.

  • How do you want to feel in the morning?
  • What would you change about your morning today?
  • How can your morning routine help you achieve your goals?

Visualise your morning routine

Now you have a better understanding of what goals are, you can start to visualise your perfect morning. To do this you need to grab a pen and paper, I’ve always found putting pen to paper works best for this type of exercise, rather than doing it digitally. Now, imagine your ideal morning and think about how you feel, what time you wake up, what do you, and what your purpose and goals.

Try not to cater to your overindulgent self such as creating a lazy morning where you wake up late and play on your phone or watch TV, as this type of day will not cater to your best self. Because I know you want to be the best version of you that you can be, so think about how your higher self would act and what their ideal morning would look like.

If you’re struggling, you can always create multiple ideal mornings and put some variation into your routine, there is no right or wrong, it’s about understanding what you want. The possibilities for your morning routine are endless. Personally, I would like to switch it up every week or so to keep things exciting and to make sure my routine is aligned with my values and goals.

Plan your morning

Now it’s time to plan your perfect morning routine. Do you need to prepare anything the night before? Such as laying your gym clothes out. Do you know which room in your home you will be doing your routine? Make sure its clean and remove all unnecessary distractions. You want to feel relaxed, after all you deserve the perfect morning!

Follow through

A plan isn’t anything unless you actually follow though. Just remember that you are in control of your morning, you might not be living your ideal life just yet but you can bring elements of it into your morning routine.
