How To Spring Clean Your Life + Free Workbook

In this post I’m going to share with you how to Spring clean your life! With the sluggish winter months over, Spring is the ideal time to take a look at all aspects of your life and declutter or revamp anything that is no longer serving its purpose or bringing you happiness.

I’m not just talking about sorting through your wardrobe or spring cleaning your house, I believe the new season is about getting organised in all areas of your life. From your mind, body and health to your home, relationships and career goals.

Put yourself first this Spring and set yourself up for success by de-cluttering all that is negative and uninspiring in your life. Even if you start small and make little but positive changes, you will soon see a ripple effect as other areas of your life start to blossom as a result.

Mind

Review your goals: Do you remember those New Year resolutions you whispered to yourself on January 1st? Are these goals still what you desire or have your dreams changed? Commit to your goals by writing them down and reviewing them weekly or monthly to make sure you stay on track.

Organise your ideas: De-clutter your mind by brainstorming all of your ideas. You will feel so much lighter and this exercise is likely to inspire new ideas as you get into the swing of it!

Let go of negative thoughts: Negative thoughts can really hold you back in life. To let go of any negative thoughts, spend some time writing in your journal, it doesn’t need to flow it just needs to release any tension and negativity building up in your mind. Daily journaling is a great habit to adopt to regularly let go of negative thoughts, but if you don’t fancy journaling daily then try weekly or maybe just when you feel weighed down by your thoughts.

Fun

Choose your Spring reading list: What’s on your reading list? Sometimes I like to have two books on the go, one which is just for fun and another which is a self-development book, depending it what mood I’m in.

Revamp your routine: Has the winter weather pulled you into a slump? Have you created any bad habits? With the new season here, why not create some new healthier habits? Personally, I find a good routine to revamp in the Spring is my morning routine. With longer sunnier days it’s much more appealing to jump out of a warm cosy bed and start the day.

Schedule fun time: Open up your diary, how does it look? Have you scheduled time to catch up with friends? Have you planned family time, date night, me time? Are you saying yes to activities you don’t want to go to? This is your time, so make sure you’re spending it with the people you love, doing the things you love.

Body

Change your look: A change of season is a perfect excuse to change your style. Treat yourself to some new outfits, try a new hair do or maybe just do something small like buy some new nail varnish and lipstick’s, even these small changes can boost your self-esteem.

Re-think your diet: Has the winter weather encouraged you to adopt an unhealthy diet? Re-think your diet and make sure you’re getting a balance of nutrients by eating plenty of fruit and vegetables. If you find healthy eating uninspiring, try experimenting with new recipes and changing your meals regularly

Mix up your workout routine: With the weather getting warmer, Spring is a great time to mix up your workout routine. Instead of doing your usual exercise at the gym maybe go for a run outside in the nice weather. Experiment with new classes or head to your local swimming pool.

Home

De-clutter your closet: Let’s be honest, you know that you have items in your wardrobe that you’re never going to wear again, so in the spirit of spring cleaning, de-cluttering your closet is a good place to start. I recommend reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying* by Marie Kondo, her book will help you to transform your home into a clutter-free space using the KonMari method.

Spring clean your home: Once you have de-cluttered your closet and you’re feeling amazing because of it, find a day or a weekend that you can dedicate to cleaning your home. Check out this super Spring cleaning checklist by Oprah.com for some guidance! If finding an entire day or weekend is difficult then try to schedule an hour here and then, to do one room at a time.

Organise your workspace: Spring clean your life by organising your workspace. Your workspace should inspire you, it should motivate you, it should help bring out the best in you. After all, this is where the magic happens. Don’t let your workspace get cluttered with paperwork and unwanted items, organise your work and make life easier for yourself. Try adding photos, candles or inspiring quotes, and if you can, treat yourself to some new stationery.

Technology

Protect your passwords: First of all, it’s not safe to use the same password for everything, even though it’s a lot easier to remember! I use a fantastic free app called ‘LastPass’. You just need to remember your one password to enter the app or use your fingerprint to unlock the app (if you have a smartphone). You can then store all of passwords, usernames and notes. The best part is you can categorise your passwords, such as ‘social accounts’, ‘bank’ and ‘work’. This app has been incredibly useful and I would highly recommend it!

Save your memories: Go through all of the photos on your phone, delete the ones which you don’t want and upload to ones you love to a safe place such as iCloud, Amazon Cloud, Google Drive or DropBox. You can then delete those photos from your phone to save space and have peace of mind knowing that your memories are in a safe place.

Clean your inbox: Clean up your inbox by unsubscribing from those emails which you no longer want to receive, just find the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the bottom of the emails.

Relationships

Start saying no: Stop saying yes to things you don’t want to do. You don’t need to your colleagues leaving do if you don’t want to. You don’t need to do anything you don’t want to do and not going simply because you don’t want to it’s a good enough reason. If this resonates with you, check out The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k*

Un-commit: Do you have any toxic relationships? Is there anyone who brings out the worst in you, who holds you back in life, who brings negativity into your life? If there is, then maybe it’s time to put yourself first by removing yourself from all toxic relationships.

Re-commit: Have you lost touch with an old friend? Maybe someone from school who bought out the best in you, but as you both grew older your paths have gone in different directions. Get in touch with past friends or patch up your current friendships by planning a night out with your friends or a weekend away with your partner.

Very nice list. I like the different areas you covered. We don’t think that some of these things add to our mind clutter.
    Thanks for sharing.

That’s a great guide! I admit I felt a bit overwhelmed when reading it, though as there’s a lot to spring clean! I will start with the mind and move to the other steps later on.
