Sometimes I can get a little overwhelmed with life and get caught up in the rush of things which are happening around me. My mind can be taken over by to-do lists, past concerns and future worries, making me feel cluttered and messy in both my mind and my space.
It’s times like these when I know that I’m due a self-care date, this is basically a time or even a day set aside to focus on myself and my needs. To re-set my thoughts, review my goals and get my life back on track.
Today I want to share with you how I take myself on a self-care date. I hope from reading this you find some love to give to yourself and treat yourself to some well deserved me time.
The first thing you need to do is schedule your date, grab your diary or open up your digital calendar and lock in a time or a day to take yourself on a self-care date. Once you have found a time you need to treat this activity as non-negotiable, the same way you would treat work or school.
Yoga or meditation
Yoga and meditation are both great activities to practice for your self-care date as they can make you feel calm and at peace. They are both great ways to reset your thoughts and helps you to focus on the present moment. More often than not we are looking into the past or worrying about the future, these practices will bring you back to the present moment and help you focus on how you are feeling right now.
You might not feel like exercising but let me ask you one question. Have you ever regretted doing a workout? I would imagine not. Sometimes I really don’t feel like working out, whether it be a the gym or going for a run but after I force myself to get out of the house and take care of my body I always feel great afterwards. Exercise allows you to reset your mind, take care of your body and during your workout you will release endorphin’s which will make you feel happier.

What’s a self-care date without a little pampering? After exercising you would have well and truly earned yourself a pamper session! Pamper yourself to your hearts content, use your new bath bombs, grab the new bath set you still haven’t used from Christmas! Paint your nails, pop on a face mask and put your favourite records on. Use this time to really unwind and relax, this is your time so make yourself feel amazing.
Have you ever noticed that when you feel messy in both your mind and in life, your space and environment is messy too? When this happens I feel the urge to clean and de-clutter my space, in a way to rid the clutter in my mind. Just by cleaning your home you can feel much happier, a simple task such as sorting through unwanted items can make you feel ready to tackle anything… or maybe just help you to feel less overwhelmed.
I first learnt the effect cleaning have have on our mind after I read The Life Changing Magic Of Tidying by Marie Kondo. Who shares with us the key to successfully tidying your home by only keeping what you truly love, using the simple KonMari method.
