It’s super important that you exercise regularly, not only does exercise have major heath benefits but it will also help you sleep better. When you exercise regularly you give your body a chance to use up all it’s energy meaning you will fall asleep faster at night.
Unwind One Hour Before Bed
At least one hour before bed, stop working and start to unwind. Turn off all your electronics and stop looking at screens as this will stimulate your brain and keep you awake. If you must look at your devices then turn on night mode, this will shift the colours on the screen to the warmer end so you can browse before bed.
Listen to Calming Music
Some nights my brain simply has too many tabs open, meaning I just can not switch off and relax. When this happens I like to listen to some calming music or the sound of rain drops to help me unwind and fall asleep.
Yoga is known for its amazing health benefits but it’s also a great way to relax, unwind and de-stress before you go to sleep. If you struggle to sleep at night try doing some easy yoga poses before bed and you find yourself nodding off faster.
I find reading before bed to be the best sleep hack of all time. Once I’ve turned down the lights, snuggled into bed and had a quick read of a good book I’m fast asleep. Next time you’re struggling to get to sleep, pick up a book from your bedside and you will be fast asleep in no time.
Meditation can also calm your restless mind, help you de-stress and get you ready for bed. Meditation allows you to focus on slow rhythmic breathing that helps make sleeping easier.
Lavender is a natural relaxant which prevents agitation and stress. Try using a couple of drops of Lavender essential oil before bed to sooth your sense, you could even try putting some drops on your pillow tonight.
Set a Bedtime
Set yourself a bedtime in which you have to go to bed at this time every evening. By doing this your mind will recognise that it’s time for you to unwind and relax.
Cut Out Caffeine
Whether it’s in our coffee, tea or even our chocolate, cutting out caffeine in the evening will improve your quality of sleep and the time it takes for you to fall asleep. Try ditching the caffeine earlier in the day, around 3 PM, and see how your sleep improves.
Use An Eye Mask or Black Out Curtains
It could be streetlamps outside or the car headlights which are pouring light into your bedroom. To have a better nights rest a good sleep hack is to use an eye mask or invest in some blackout curtains. This will ensure your sleep is longer and undisturbed.
